I need to find a site for social networking, that is better than myspace, tagworld, bebo, myopera, etc. etc. that also allows full css/html customization. Sorta in the way that myspace allows full css/html, and if this is humanly possible, one that allows javascript and other cool stuff. It would be cool if a page could be made private, viewable to friends only, too...

Reply:thats a long question. and a compiled list would have to be twisted to somebodies ends as are all studies and statistics. i can only go by my experience.

i have a myspace, i think i have a yahoo one, , , i forget, , , it may be 360. and a couple of off the wall ones. i have a xanga.

of course i worked on my xanga the longest and hardest so that would have to figure into the equation. i think i have a little over 100 hits on my myspace profile (lifetime) which is several months, , , i dont think its been quite a year. i get that daily on my xanga blog.

i think the top blog would be the one you advertized (by blogging and commenting on other peoples blogs) the most.

i find xanga easier to use than my space. i havent tried most of the names you have up there. so i wouldnt know.

any answer you get will be flawed with prejudice tho. hahahahaha, , , i used to blog on another site with an obscene name which i wont put here.

if you are curios, maybe you can find it by googling my name, , , mejicojohn, , , there are a bunch of entries there, , , maybe its still there, , , it would be several pages into the listing of entries as i got tired of messing with it.

MySpace, Tagworld, Multiply, CollectiveX, Yahoo 360 etc. all offer a robust suite of tools (blog, photo posting, video, chat, forums, tags, etc.) but as they host these things, they require you to use their URL. Is there a way to create a site using these tools, but use my own URL? Could I simply redirect viewers? Or is there a service that would allow me to do that?

There is an open distributed standard for relationship information called "Friend of a Friend" (FOAF):

But the project has had nowhere near the success that any of these other sites have. You can add a FOAF file to your own site, but it makes most sense if you're linking to people who also use FOAF.

As an alternative, you can also simply redirect or use frames to have your URL direct attention to these sites (although you'll probably have to choose).

Safety issues always rank higher than getting in trouble. The internet is fun and you can learn many things but it's not worth getting hurt over.

When you talk to your mother, maybe you could suggest that she approach your little sister in a non-threatening manner. They are all over this site, myspace pics now all have the report button underthem, tagworld has those flags, It all seems jacked up to me. There should be means available to report people. But I don't like it so easily available. You should have to take the time to really think about stuff to report people. There's too many people out there I think that might just go around reporting things they don't like calling it the "I" word for whatever reason they decied to make up.

Nope. Facebook doesn't want to turn into myspace, and thank goodness. However there are applications you can add that you can express yourself with.

but I'm looking to make some friends in or around the Orlando area. I've got profiles on myspace, tagworld etc. but I can't seem to find good people that have things in common with me. I'm a little stuck. Is anyone reading this from the Orlando area? Any suggestions on what I can do to make some new friends?

I am not from that area, but I would suggest, depending on your age, that you go to some place you know you would like, and just start "meeting" people.

If you want to meet people, you need to be out there and be friendly. How about where you live? The grocery store, the beach, anywhere you go, be outgoing and friendly, that is how most friendships start, soon you have people calling to ask you to go places with them.

If you are religious, join a church group, meet people there, and soon you have outside activities from the Church you can do with them.

I feel for you. I raised hell when I first met my husband. I stood there over his shoulder while he deleted all of his old personals information. You should do the same. If she really loves you, she will remove that info. If not, then you should remove yourself.

Reply:I'm not sure of exactly what you are asking, but I think you just want to know how to copy and paste the codes for myspace etc. Ok on a PC you click in the box with the codes in it and hold down the ctrl key and the letter A then when everything looks highlighted that is in the box you will hold down the ctrl key and the letter C at the same time last of all you will need to open the webpage where you want to paste the information. If you are pasting to myspace you need to go to Home then edit profile. Then click in the About Me box. Next hold down ctrl and the letter V. Now the new text should be pasted into your about me box.

Here are what the button combinations actually mean:

ctrl + A means Select all

ctrl + C means Copy

ctrl + V means Paste

I use MSN, but I use Trillian and not the MSN Messenger client. Trillian is compact, ad free, no tabs, simple to use and set up. Works with Yahoo Messenger, AIM as well.

meeting people on the web. Some may be creeped out by the thought, I was at first. But now I feel like meh. . . it can't be that bad. Any advice, suggestions, anything. Someone told me that I could join a message board/ forum whatever of any band that I liked and that would help. I have tagworld account (I refuse to get a myspace no matter what) but rarely if ever log in. . . I guess that could help to.

You know, you don't have to drive to meet new people. There are loads of things to do in your own community. You can volunteer at the local hospital, or the elementary school, tutoring youngster or you could participate in activities at church.

If those social venues are not to your liking and the internet is, you can always find plenty of chat rooms on yahoo or AOL (two popular sites). You can go to chat rooms that are in your part of town and find new friends. Doing so on the web allows you to participate as if you are on the phone (without giving out your information until you are comfortable) because you can utilize cam and voice. This makes it very interactive, instead of waiting for messages.

Reply:Have you thought of studying for you ham (amateur) license ? I'm disabled %26amp; unable to drive. I have met %26amp; made a lot of friends on amateur radio. I know sitting in front of the ham radio may seem a little boring, but once you get to talking to others,it's not bad.

Don't worry about filthy language on amateur radio bands, it's not there,if there should be and that person gets caught they can lose thier ham license %26amp; may end up in prison,cause they broke the rules. It has been a great past time for me. I'm on meds. to help control epileptic seziures and needed something to do to pass the time. But if you're not interested enough, then you will think b-o-o-o-r-r-r-r-r-i-i-i-i-n-n-n-n-n-g g g g g g g g. Put your mind to it that you can do it, then you can. Better than starring at a comp. screen all day.

Myspace is retarded I don't see what's so damn special about it... So what seriously? It's just another damn network like this, or anything. Why is it so great though? Any other profile thing can have the exact same stuff... I got bored so I'm gonna share my opinions about it.

KILLING SENSE OF REALITY?

It's suddenly become the bestest thing it seems everyone needs one if they want friends or they are "uncool." Think about it it's suddenly become a huge topic people talk about it all the time. I might be talking to someone and they go "Did you see my new MySpace Layout?" No and I couldn't care any damn less. Then I'll be walking down the hallway and I may hear "WHY DID YOU TAKE ME OFF YOU TOP 8?" I guess I can start with just a wow... does it really matter that much that your friend has a better friend than you? It's not like they're mad... Which bring me to my next point... If someone takes someone off they're friends list why are they automatically "mad" at each other? It could be a accident... someone may have logged on as them... and there's 100s other reasons It doesn't really matter that your Friend List has 1 less person on it. This brings me to 2 more points... I'll start with random friend adding or being a "MySpace Whore" what's the point? People couldn't care less if you have 100 more friends than them if you don't know a single person on your list it's not going to make you seem cool... just like a idiot trying to seem cool but failing miserably... Then the 2nd of my two points I was trying to make which is if one doesn't get added... I've seen to many people be mad at people just because one doesn't add them as a friend... once again this doesn't nesscessarly mean they hate or are mad at you... often people have they're reasons which could be someone changed the password, don't know you well enough, and are about to delete their myspace...

COMMENTING?

Another thing I can go against is the commenting people think it's so awesome. It really doesn't matter how many ******* comments you have. I hear people sometimes say "I just broke 1000 comments!" Wow I don't mean to put you down or anything but when your doing tons of chains and conversations on your comments they really don't count if your gonna be a dumbass and be competitive about it. Even at times kinda going back to the layout comment i metioned earlier the person ended up saying "You should go comment on it" As I said no one really cares about your layout if someone says "Ohh... it's cute" they're just trying to be nice since they know your just trying to impress them for some sad reason. Someone I was talking to on AIM once even asked if I would comment them cause they hadn't had one in a while I look at their MySpace and see the last comment was 2 hours ago and they had over 900. Ok you really need a new comment I bet you haven't even read 1/2 of them, so I comment them saying "Happy?" 1st off they get pissed... why though? I have like 43 and hadn't had one in days at that point yet they have 900 and are complaining about not having one in 2 hours... Another thing that pisses me off is the picture commenting... so many people put "I don't think I look good in this one" or " I think I'm ugly" If you thought you looked so damn bad or ugly why the hell would you put up the picture? Then people put the "Your Hot" for like every comment. What's so damn special about that? And if people don't put the same old comment then the person might be mad... personally I like to put "Your right you are ugly!"

BULLITINS?

To beleive some of the **** on there you'd have to be crazy, like mental hospitol crazy... Personally I don't beleive in good and never will but if I did I'd be smarter than some of these morons with god which basically mean if you don't repost this you'll go to hell. I always look at these and laugh... do you really think a god would care that much about you not reposting a MySpace Bulletin? Then there's the whore bulletins which I discussed earlier and will say again PEOPLE THINK YOUR A LOSER IF YOU DO THEM! Then there's one such as the clown statue and he'll you yea...yea...yea... you know how big a list that clown has now? If it was true it could take him 100s of years research says for him to get to you and hopefully you don't live for that long, you couldn't be that scared over absolutly nothing...

MY MYSPACE EXPERIENCE

I got it sometime last year and kinda became addicted to it like how I've ranted on about for so long. It makes you focus on things that really don't matter instead of things that do. Like "I wonder how I can make it look cooler?" or "I wonder if some hot girl will find me and add me?" I'm not afraid to admit it but I did. Still I see people with this addiction and false sense of reality, people say "I'm addicted to MySpace" or "I need to change up my MySpace" To these people I hope you releize how big a DUMBASS you look. Ever since I deleted my MySpace I have peope come up to me all the time "Why did you delete your MySpace?" Good question I don't like to get sucked into things and lose grip of what really matters, I like to be a indivdual and not have to be influenced by others like I was on MySpace. So to those people Get the **** over it. It's just a damn website

IN CONCLUSION

MySpace is taking over I know students so obcessed they're making it for the teachers... I mean come on do you not think they have enough of putting up with you as it is? Parents often want the kids to delete them cause of sexual predators. Even though I never had any experience with one so far as I'm concerning it's pretty safe. I find it truely sad that some people chose myspace in front of their family. At that point you know it's just a probelm and getting in the way of real life. I'm not completly against it though I mainly am it's good if your in a band it really helps get your name out there. But to the point I needed to get this out cause it bugging ther crap put of me cause as you see I have a lot to say, don't let it get in the way of life.

Reply:I like Myspace ok. My kids all have one. There are pervs all over, of course you have to be careful, but there is a lot of good interaction there I think. Lots of new music and comedians there, so you can stay on the cutting edge! I found out about Dane Cook on there, and have made several friends there.

i have various profile pages, bebo, Hi5, Xanga, profile heaven. Tagged, Tagworld, FaceBox, Faceparty, FacePic Frapper, Zorpia, Hoverspot, but so far cherrytap...is the best it is even better than myspace i think with no kids on there...but is there a profile site that has all the html options, comments, etc that stands out above all others. that i havent got.

I definitely prefer myspace over any of the other ones you mentioned. The only other one I know of is friendster and I wouldn't recommend that one.

I have a personal page something myspace, except this one is called Tagworld. I noticed that some people had blogs in which they had the title underlined, and if you clicked on it, it brought you to its individual page. I'm a myspace user as well and I've wondered the same thing, and this is my conclusion. You go to, say, Kanye West's or Dane Cook's actual website because you like them, you like what they offer the world through their talent. With myspace, everybody has that same power to create a site that anybody, who wants to, can look at. Social networking.

Also, it has the band pages, which i believe the two other sites don't have. I like Del.icio.us for bookmark management. Okay, a lot. What would be really cool and useful for me is something like a "tagcloud" that del.icio.us uses only for computer files. It would be software that could embed tags inside files or keep a database of descriptive words associated to them. I'm trying to get away from folder organization on Windows XP.

I realize Vista will have something similiar but I was wondering if there is something available now that I could start using.

Please don't mention online resources such as Tagworld for example that you have to upload your files to.

But for pictures on your hard drive, Picasa (from Google) is rather sensational ! Worth a look even if you don't decide to keep it !

There is some scuttle-but on the use of graphics from other sites (mySpace, TagWorld, Glitter-Graphics etc… etc) being blogged about, and or shared through messages in 360, regarding they’re usage in 360 messages on how harmful it is to our computers to use them (exception being when we use them in a blog)… does anyone know if this is fact or fiction?

I’ve looked through the Yahoo 360 News blog but didn’t find an answer, and being a ‘glitter-a-holic’ user/abuser I sure don’t want to be the cause of messing up anyone’s PC.

Any official Yahoo information on this topic is very much appreciated.

Yahoo usually protect with their own protection.It is there but you may not see it.But no it is not harmful to your computer.Most people will see HTML but usually they don't post this on other peoples computer[[page]] but some times they do.Mostly in your mailbox. l don't believe they want any one to post it on their page. But you will see which person use them so it is not harmful.If your computer is safe then the others will be ok.

Reply:facebook. The growth rate is the highest and most of my friends are on there. You can add photos, slide shows and applications like "what care bear are you". You can't make a fancy background but it makes every page simple to look at.

I like it because it's easy to use, and most of my friends have it. I don't even have MySpace. I am getting kinda bored of Bebo though, actually networking sites in general, probably because of over-rated, addictive overuse!!

In addition, my friends rarely log on anymore. I turn my web browsings now towards gaming websites (immature ones seem to attract me most, there is something about earning money to buy non-existent objects for an avator that supposedly resembles me, although all of them consist of nothing but pixels). So, anyway, I'd say Bebo, only 'cos it's the only one I have any experience of. I'd rule out Facebook anyway, it's like for 25 year old pluses, I'd say, judging by my older sisters having it. I'm 15 (I'd consider that young teen), and Bebo has my vote.

i want to make a page where i can post my blogs and add my other social pages on it and if possible have a live chat room and have multiple music and videos on it, for my visitors to enjoy.

It's possible, but not easy!

Find a hosting company that suits your needs.

Learn Apache, and run a server, providing your isp allows you to do this.

The chat room thing is a bad idea, it takes A-LOT of bandwidth to run one, and getting people to join in a chat when your website is new without credibility is near impossible.

Also do consider myspace and many others make building web pages look easy, using templates that you yourself do not have to write out.

The truth is 90% of the really cool websites you see are built from scratch with various languages.

So there will be A-LOT of learning involved

myspace is nothing. Myspace is simple, easy, and already premade for you.

If you figure out how to do things on Freewebs or on another free site or something and you enjoy it and such...then...purchase a domain thing from yahoo or something.

It's a lot of fun when you get to know it..and learning the codes and such is hard, lots of memory, and such.

Those are 2 I know of but I would just stick with using myspace and facebook. They have more people on them. Facebook is good if you just want to keep the friends (assuming they are in college) you have and myspace is good if you want to make new friends and make your page all fancy. There is no reason to join a bunch of different sites. I would just stick with those 2.

Yeah, I have a myspace. Most people know about myspace, it's the 7th most popular website on the Internet. Seriously. There's facebook.com, friendster.com, and xanga.com, too. But you can't really get anything that's just the same as another. Like xanga and myspace are similar, but completely different.

I've browsed around these sites and I don't understand why they are so popular. I'm looking for people that use these sites that can tell me what they really like about them. Also, are there any other similar sites?

One of the main purposes of these sites is the ability to keep in touch. Especially for students, who have gone to college, and wish to remain in contact with their friends. I, as a high schooloer, have realized that it is easier to even keep in contact with those that you see everyday, but don't get to talk to due to a busy schedule. People also like to see what their friends like to do on the internet. What is on a person's profile is somewhat a reflection of that person's personality.

Yes Facebook.com is very easier and from my experience a lot more "fun" than myspace as I have experienced both; however you need to receive an invite for facebook! I will be more than happy to supply you with one if you allow me to have your email address

I have hi5. They're all the same. However, I haven't had any issues with logging in or updating my site as I have with myspace. Myspace looks really cheap in my opinion.

I know you don't want to hear this, but my advice is that you shouldn't even try because that is against the acceptable use policy at your school. They have sites blocked for safety and security reasons. They own the computers and the internet connection so they get to say how they're used.

Trying to bypass their security is considered hacking and will get you banned from using any of their computers and probably even suspended or expelled.

They can see and track everything you do so you WILL get caught. Not being able to use the computers at all would suck way worse than just using them to view allowed sites - wouldn't it?

But please go ahead and post all the proxies you can think of here so we know the new ones to block. Thanks for making it easy for us admins to keep blocking you!

You will get suspended and/or banned from using school computers when you get caught. Use school computers for school work, and myspace can wait until you get home. Do you really want your teachers and school administrators knowing what you are posting on myspace anyways?

if you work at an office with many cubicles try and "borrow" one without giving it back. if your unimployed than rack up some money and try to buy a USB non-ball mouse. If you have a "ball" mouse you might have to tighten the bottom or even open it and clean it out, the ball needs proper friction with the dust that gathers in it, it might just be rolling but not really "moving" any thing

You need to go to an image hosting site, www.photobucket.com is one that I use. Load the image, and you will receive a URL for the pic copy that then paste it to your myspace. There are size limitations when you do it this way.

For the comments, you find the image you want, and store it in something like photobuck.com and then copy the url and past it in the comment box, once you hit submit comment the image will be there.
